Marcel Houben is specialized in national, European and international employment, industrial relations and social security law.

Since his admission to the Brussels Bar in 1977, he handles all aspects of employment, industrial relations and social security law, such as organizing the employment and social security status of international and management level employees and international assignments, setting up employment structures and alternative cooperation arrangements, negotiating and drafting of tailor made employment contracts, restrictive convenants, work regulations and employee manuals. He negotiates and organizes (complex) termination settlements. He represents his clients in collective bargaining, establishes collective bargaining agreements and advises on same.

He assists his clients with respect to the industrial relations law aspects of mergers, acquisitions, closures and collective dismissals, the relations with the unions and the personnel representation bodies at company level. He represents his clients before the Belgian employment courts.

Before being called to the Brussels Bar, he was assistant professor at the Institute of Labour Relations at the Law School of the University of Leuven, where, in addition to lecturing employment law, he was in charge of a research project on amicable settlement of employment and industrial relations disputes.
